This is a tough one. People often wonder if they need travel insurance. I have traveled in Thailand with and without travel insurance. Looking back it was both risky and foolish to travel without it. The fact of the matter is that Thailand is a developing country. Sure, medical treatment can be cheap in Thailand. The care is often excellent in terms of quality. People even plan their holiday around elective procedures that their insurance back home won't cover. Nonetheless, the costs associated with a serious injury can be substantial.
For example, what would you do in the event that you were seriously injured on a small, obscure island somewhere in southern Thailand? What if you needed to be airlifted off of that island to get proper medical treatment? Can you really afford to pay for a helicopter to take you back to the mainland so you can get that treatment? Furthermore, travel insurance covers a host of things. It sure is nice to know that if your iPod or digital camera were stolen from your bungalow that you be able to recoup some or all of the cost. To boot, travel insurance is pretty cheap! For these reasons and many more, it is downright foolish not to be insured. After all, you never know what is going to happen.
I have used World Nomads in the past, so I can vouch for the fact that they are a dependable company. That is probably why so many companies, websites, and individuals have recommended them. This website also endorses their product. You can read more about what they have to offer on a page I have dedicated to them on this website by clicking here or clicking the small graphic below.
